20 : A last confession

๐œ—๐œšโ‹†โ‚ŠหšHAMDAN'S POV :

"Uncle, did you bring me a fairy from New York?" Ashan ran towards me while giggling.

"You have to find your own fairy, Ashan, and for that, you've got to first grow up," I replied while fist-bumping Arsalaan.

"How have you been, motherfucker?" Arsalaan asked as I sat down on one of the couches.

"You're such a bad dad! You shouldn't be cursing in front of your children," I sighed in disbelief.

"When did I curse? I just called you by your second name," Arsalaan smiled.

"How about I break your face?" I smiled back.

"For that, you've got to take permission from Mina! she wouldn't like someone messing up her husband's handsome features," he replied while rubbing his nape.

"You're so full of yourself, Arsal," Minahil entered with a tray of coffee and cookies.

"How are you, Arsal's passenger princess? Didn't you find yours own passenger princess yet?" she teased, making me chuckle.

"Hey! Don't call me that, ewwww!" I said, and Arsal and Mina laughed in sync.

Minahil never really had friends, but since I'm Arsal's friend, I'm hers too. She's the sweetest sister-like friend one could have.

"Any plans for marriage, Hamdan? You're going to turn 31 soon!" she asked with a sweet smile.

"Mommy, Hamdan uncle will marry his fairy, yayyy fairy!" Ashan giggled, making my and Arsalaan's jaws drop.

"Ashan, go babysit your little sister. You don't have to talk in between the elders, that's bad manners, right?" Minahil said, making Ashan pout.

"Okay, Mommy," he replies cutely before walking towards me, asking to give him my ear as I lean towards him.

"I'll keep your secret, okay? But next time, bring me a fairy too," he whispered into my ear before running away.

This rascal, I tell you.

"I like this particular girl, but she doesn't like me back even with all the efforts. She actually likes someone else, but he is dead. I've tried a lot to make her mine and win her over, but it's not working. I have no idea what to do next," I explained everything about me and Rania to Minahil since Arsalaan already knows.

"Look, Hamdan, love shouldn't be forced! If she doesn't like you, just let her go. Love just happens, it doesn't matter how much effort the other person is putting in. You can bring the whole world to her feet, and she would still reject you because she feels nothing for you. Whereas if she likes you back, she would be with you without you making any effort. Love just happens, and we can't control who we fall for," she concluded.

Every word of hers started making sense to me.

Love just happens, and we can't control who we fall for. Rania once told me the same thing, but I never pondered upon it. Now that I do, it makes sense.

I fell for Rania, even after I knew she was engaged. Love just happens, and we can't control who we fall for. Yes, that's true.

"What do I do now? I have been chasing her and trying my best to win her," I ask, wanting to know more.

"A last confession: you know there's this thing about one-sided loveโ€”either it ends or it becomes two-sided! there's no in-between," Minahil affirmed.

"Let's see what it is in your case, Hamdan. You are neither going to hurt yourself further, nor her. Just a last confession: your one-sided love will either become two-sided or it will end," she says, and an ache forms in my heart.

I don't want it to end.

No.

"I won't let it end, not so easily! I can't let her go. I'll die if I let her go. And I don't want to die," I affirm, standing up from the couch.

"Let's see what fate has for me! A last confession it is. Thank you, Minahil," I say before walking out of their house.

I didn't talk to Rania after she confessed her crime in front of Rayyan and Sehmat. It's just that I didn't get the time. It was late at night yesterday. But today I'll talk to her. I'll ask if she can give me a chance, us a chance.

I grab my car and drive towards Rayyan's penthouse. Sehmat opened the door for me.

"Wish me luck," I say to my sister, who frowns.

"For what?" she asks, perplexed.

"Just do it," I say coldly.

"Okay! Best of luck, bhai," she says, confused.

I walk towards Rania's room. I feel like I'm going insane at this point. Her door is open. "I'm coming in," I announce before barging in.

There I see Rania lying on the bed with a novel in her hand. It's evening, and of course, she reads books at this time, as expected.

"I need to talk to you!" I inform her.

" But I don't want to talk to you," she replies boringly, not sparing a glance at me.

"You do! Come here before I walk towards you," I warn, making her hiss in aggravation before getting up from the bed.

"What do you think of yourself asshole?" she rolls her eyes as she walks towards me.

I stand in her room, gazing at her. I've never felt so vulnerable in my life as I do now. But Minahil is right! I can't just hurt myself or her. It should end, either happily or not.

"A last confession I have to make," I say, facing Rania, standing in front of me. My green hues peering into her spellbinding grey ones.

"When I first saw you in that flower shop, I lost my mind like never before. My heart, for the first time, managed to jump out of my body. It told me that it is not mine anymore, but of that girl wearing that pink floral dress with a bow in her long hair, who was buying flowers for her fiancรฉ that day." I started remembering that moment when I first laid my eyes on her.

"It was not in my control to fall in love with you. But I did. Even after knowing that you're someone else's and can never be mine. My heart fell for you and never got back up." Rania stares at me.

"I have been stalking you since day one. It didn't matter that you had a fiancรฉ whom you would be marrying someday. I never felt the urge to confess because I knew it was just a waste since you already had someone," we both stare at each other as I speak.

"But when I realized Armaan is dead, I thought I could at least try confessing my feelings. But little did I know that love is never in someone's control. Even after all the things that happened, I couldn't win you or your heart," I smile as pain hits my heart.

"But I'm not tired of chasing after you! I would dedicate my whole life to obsessing over you and loving you like you're the reason I'm alive." My smile widens a little.

"But I don't want to hurt you further by being clingy and annoying you more. I don't want to strangle you with my presence, which you despise, so I'm here today, confessing my one-sided love to you. I'll let you live in peace after this; I won't stalk you anymore. I'll shift back to Canada and live like before." My eyes tear up; I can't believe I'm crying, and shit, it's so embarrassing.

"But I won't be able to erase your memory from my heart, but I'll try, try my best. Thank you, because of you, I felt how it feels to be in love. I have never fallen in love all my life until you happened." My soul shatters into pieces.

"I love you, Rania Syed, and I always will," my voice a little shaky as I gaze into her eyes. I could see them soften, and her lips moved as if she was going to say something when the door opened, and an angry Rayyan barged in.

"How dare you!" He rushed towards me, landing a hard punch on my face, making me stumble and hit the ground.

"Bhai!" Rania screamed.

"Rayyan!" Sehmat ran inside, panicking.

"You motherfucker!" Rayyan grabbed me by my collar and punched me again.

"Bhai, stop!" Rania cried.

"Rayyan, what the fuck!" Sehmat yelled, trying to separate Rayyan from me.

"Hit me, Rayyan! I deserve it," I smiled before wiping away the blood that was oozing from my nose.

"How dare you lay your eyes on my sister!" Rayyan growled, crumpling my collar.

"Rayyan, you're no one to hit my brother when Rania likes him back!" Sehmat screamed, trying to push Rayyan away from me.

"She doesn't!" he growled angrily, his eyes red.

"You fucking didn't ask her!" Sehmat screamed at the top of her lungs.

Rayyan moved away from me as Sehmat pushed him. "Are you okay?" she cried, wiping my blood with her bare hands, and I nodded.

"Rania, do you like him back?" Rayyan asked with cold eyes and a deep voice, which scared Rania as she flinched visibly.

Sehmat and I turned towards them, waiting for Rania to reply. I already expected her response and smiled in defeat when she gazed at me.

Her eyes filled with tears as she didn't detach her gaze from mine. I closed my eyes painfully, knowing I'd get beaten up more after she replies.

And I fucking deserve it.

To stalk her.

To annoy her.

To get on her nerves.

"Rania, fucking reply!" Rayyan yells as I open my eyes again, while Rania shivers and moves her palm towards her mouth, whisper-yelling.

"I do," her eyes meeting mine, and I felt like my heart would explode, and I would die any moment.
