17 : to mend our bond

๐œ—๐œšโ‹†โ‚ŠหšRANIA'S POV :

It's funny how all my life I played the victim of Armaan's death and always made my brother feel guilty by self-harming and hurting him with rude words to protect myself.

I hurt Rayyan only so that no one doubts that I was the one who killed Armaan that day.

I took a deep breath, stared at my suitcase, and then at the door. Today, I'm gonna do something I never thought I'd be doing: ask forgiveness from Rayyan and mend my bond with him.

And if possible, let him know the real truth about Armaan's death because he deserves to know!

I am the worst sister one could ever have.

I ruined his mental health; he was diagnosed with insomnia because of overthinking and always hated himself, thinking he wrecked my home, thinking he killed his own best friend and future brother-in-law.

I'll make sure Rayyan forgives me, even if it's the last thing he does once he knows the truth.

I ring the bell, waiting for someone to open the door, and in a few minutes, the door is opened, revealing my beautiful sister-in-law, Rayyan's wife, Sehmat, clad in a pastel purple jumpsuit.

Her lips form a thin line first when she looks at me, and then a smile adorns her lips. "Oh my goodness! Hello," she greeted me with a smile mixed with a frown.

"Hi bhabi," I hesitantly replied.

"Come in, Rania, and don't call me bhabi; it looks so formal. Just call me Sehmat," she said as she grabbed my suitcase and allowed me in.

"Where's Rayyan?" I asked, looking around the penthouse.

Sehmat walked towards the kitchen and brought me a glass of water, which I took with a small smile.

"He usually works at home, but sometimes if it's too important, he stays at the office. So right now, he is in the office; he'll be back at night!" she informed while gazing at the clock, and I nodded.

"But wait! I can call him and tell him you're here; he will rush and arrive within a second after knowing that his little sister is here." My stomach churned, and my heart sank.

Rayyan doesn't deserve a sister like me.

Sehmat proceeded to grab her phone from her pocket when I stopped her. "Hey! It's okay. he must have business to handle. I'll wait for him! Also, that I'll be staying here for a while, you don't mind, right? Do you?" I asked hesitantly.

I'm not much frank with Sehmat, neither my own brother, so it's kinda uncomfortable here, but I'm here to mend my bond, and no matter what, I'll seek forgiveness and their love.

"Omg, of course not! You're like my own sister, you can stay here forever." She smiled gently, she's such an Angel, I must say. She didn't even ask me why I'm here.

"We've got a month vacation from uni, and I had nothing to do, so I thought to meet you and Rayyan, so I took our jet and reached here," I informed because I felt the urge to.

"Awww, You must be tired, I'll make you something to eat," she said before entering the kitchen.

I took out the gifts I bought for the both of them and placed them on the coffee table.

I walked inside the kitchen where Sehmat was making some Italian pasta. "You didn't go to the hospital today?" I asked.

"I'm on leave," she smiled, nodding, and continued making the pasta.

"Oh," I whisper, not wanting to ask why because what if she finds me annoying.

"You like Italian food, Rania?" She asks while stirring the pasta.

"It's nice, but I know that it's your favorite, isn't it?" I say, and she grins with excitement.

"Oh my god yes! And I love ice cream a lot too, you know you can't even imagine how crazy I'm for ice cream," she speaks like a baby when she's excited, so pure and adorable.

"We are going to eat ice cream after eating this, treats on me, dearest sister-in-law," I chuckle, and she gives me a thumbs up.

Ironical how both the Waseem siblings are soft sunshine, Hamdan and Sehmat, and then there are the Syed siblings, grumpy and cold.

"It's ready!" She grinned while making two plates for her and me.

We then sat down near the coffee table on the mattress and ate the food. Sehmat was so lively, and she told me that food heals her.

She even asked me my favorite food, but I'm not someone who enjoys eating. All I eat are ramen and eggs, and that too, now I don't even get to eat those because of her asshole brother.

After eating the supper, I took a shower and got changed into a fresh pair of clothes while Sehmat talked to her friends on a video call.

Looking at her speak to her friends, I missed Fahee and Ayaan too.

"Let's go?" I walked out of my room. There are so many rooms in this house, so there's this one particular room which is my room because last time when I visited Canada, I stayed here.

"Yes, okay!" She chirped, and Sehmat took me to her favorite ice cream shop where she always goes before going to work, as she said.

"Which one do you eat, Rania?" She asks, and I pick the normal chocolate flavor since I'm not much into sweets or ice creams or anything.

"What's your favorite flavor?" I asked, and she pointed to the strawberry, then at the pistachio, and then at the cappuccino, followed by the Oreo one. She literally loves all flavors, as she said, and took 4 scoops - like, for real?!

We then talked a lot while eating our scoops. She's so fun to be with, and also my brother is so lucky to have her.

"So you don't skip any day, you always take ice cream from here before going to work?" I surprisingly asked, and she nodded, munching on her pistachio scoop.

"You know my brother, Hamdan, he was the one to introduce me to this shop. It's because of him that I'm so addicted to coming here, It's his favorite too, but he is not much of a sweet tooth," my heart racing under my chest so rapidly at the mention of Hamdan.

"I'm someone who loves dessert, while he is someone who loves desi cuisine, only." my excitement doubles when she's talking about Hamdan.

"Like butter chicken," words left my mouth, and I could see Sehmat's eyes widening and brows furrowing. Shit, shit.

"Hahaha, that's a right guess. Well, anyone could guess it since it's the most popular food around here, isn't it?" She said, and I sighed, nodding at her.

"Rayyan will return in a while, let's have a walk and then head home," she said before paying the bill.

"Hey! Treat was on me," I argued.

"You are our guest, sweetheart," she said, making my heart warm.

We walked around, Canada's cold breeze hitting my body. To be very honest, it's so much more peaceful here than in New York! Less crowded compared to there.

Also, no fear of someone wanting to harm me because this place felt like home, so much better.

Like a safe haven.

After a little walk and feeling peace, we drove back home in Sehmat's car.

Sehmat asked me to go ahead and unlock the house; she'll be back after parking the car.

So, I walked towards the door, typed the PIN code, and entered the penthouse. I took off my shoe and placed it on the rack before letting out a sigh.

"Hey! I'm Hamdan Waseem, Sehmat's brother. What about you, Hayati?" A deep, hoarse, and malicious voice suddenly made me flinch.

My eyes moved up to meet those gorgeous green hues and a malicious smirky smile that shook my limbs.

Now the real fun begins
